Credit Reporting Guidelines

Understanding the minimum account requirements when reporting to the major credit bureaus.

Minimum Reporting Example

Credit bureaus typically require you to report your entire portfolio (tradelines) each month using the Metro 2® format. By meeting the minimum account requirement in the first month, you will automatically maintain compliance in subsequent months.

For example, if a bureau requires a minimum of 500 accounts:

  • First Month – Report your entire portfolio, including accounts up to 6.5 years old (minimum 500 accounts).
  • Second Month – Report the 500 previously reported accounts plus any new accounts (e.g., 50 new accounts, totaling 550).
  • Third Month – Continue reporting the existing accounts along with newly added ones (e.g., 550 accounts + 35 new, totaling 585).

Note: You are not required to add 500 new tradelines each month—only to meet the ongoing reporting requirement.
